Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal data is processed when you visit bestbuyr.com, why, and what choices and rights you have. We have tried to keep it short and specific to how this site actually works.
In short
- You can read BestBuyr without an account, and we have no comment forms or newsletter sign-ups.
- BestBuyr does not set cookies for visitors, and our web server does not keep logs of visitors’ IP addresses.
- We use one analytics service, Seorce, and only if you allow it.
- When you click a link to Amazon, Amazon’s own privacy notice applies on Amazon’s site.
- We do not sell your personal data.
Who is responsible
bestbuyr.com is operated by BestBuyr (“we”, “us”). For any question about this policy or your data, email contact@bestbuyr.com.
What happens when you visit the site
To show you a page, your browser sends our server technical information: your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser type and the page you came from. This is needed to deliver the page and to protect the site from attacks. Our web server does not store visitors’ IP addresses in its logs. The site is hosted on servers in Germany operated by Hetzner Online GmbH, which processes this data on our behalf.
Fonts, images and styles are served from our own server. We do not load Google Fonts or other font services, and we do not show third-party advertising.
Analytics (only with your consent)
If you choose “Allow analytics” in the privacy banner, we load a script from Seorce (scripts.seorce.com), a website analytics and SEO service. It helps us understand which guides are read and how visitors find them. Seorce then receives information such as the pages you view, the referring page or search term, your browser and device type, screen size, clicks and scrolling on the page, and when you leave. It also receives your IP address when your browser contacts its servers. The script stores a session identifier in your browser’s session storage and may store a visitor identifier in local storage so that repeat visits can be recognised.
If you choose “No thanks”, or make no choice, the Seorce script is not loaded. Your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage (as bb_consent) so that we do not ask again on every page. You can change it at any time with the “Privacy choices” link at the bottom of every page, or by clearing your browser’s site data.
Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and the equivalent UK rules; for storing information on your device, the ePrivacy rules as implemented in your country). You can withdraw consent at any time; this does not affect processing before you withdrew it.
Cookies and similar technologies
BestBuyr does not set cookies for ordinary visitors. The only things we store in your browser are your privacy choice (local storage) and, if you allow analytics, the Seorce identifiers described above. Editors who log in to manage the site receive WordPress login cookies; these are not set for readers.
Links to Amazon and other websites
Our guides link to Amazon stores (Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.in, Amazon.de and Amazon.fr) through the Amazon Associates program. When you click such a link, you leave BestBuyr. Amazon may set cookies on its own website to record that you came from us, so that we can be paid a commission if you buy. We do not receive your name, address, payment details or the contents of your order. Amazon is responsible for the data it processes; see the privacy notice of the Amazon store you visit. The same applies to any other website we link to.
When you email us
If you email us, we use your email address and the content of your message to reply and to handle your request, for example a correction or a privacy request. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering messages (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) or, for privacy requests, our legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c) GDPR). We keep correspondence only as long as needed to deal with it, and normally delete it within 12 months unless we need it longer to meet a legal obligation.
Security of the site
To keep the site secure and available, our server processes request data as described above. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS connections.
International transfers
Our hosting is in Germany. Seorce, if you allow analytics, and Amazon, if you follow a link, may process data in other countries, including countries outside the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. Where we are responsible for such a transfer, we rely on safeguards recognised by law, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
How long data is kept
- Server request data: processed only to deliver the page; visitor IP addresses are not written to our server logs.
- Your privacy choice: stored in your browser until you change it or clear your site data.
- Analytics data: kept by Seorce according to its retention settings and policies; withdrawing consent stops new data being collected.
- Emails: normally deleted within 12 months, as explained above.
Your rights
In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the country where you live or work.
In California and other US states with privacy laws you have the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to request its deletion or correction, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information.
In India, under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to obtain information about the processing of your personal data, to correction and erasure, to grievance redressal, and to nominate another person to exercise your rights.
To exercise any of these rights, email contact@bestbuyr.com. We will reply within one month, or sooner where the law requires. We may need to ask for information to confirm a request comes from you. Because we hold very little data about readers, we may have nothing to provide; we will tell you if that is the case.
Children
BestBuyr is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the way the site works changes. The date at the top of this page shows the latest version. If a change affects how we use data you have already given us, we will make that clear on this page.
